DotEmu's Double Dragon Trilogy Hits Android With Mobile-Optimized Gameplay, A Remastered Soundtrack, And More
Gamers of a certain age probably spent at least a few hours (or years) of their lives submerged in the original Double Dragon games. These side-scrolling beat-em-ups have stood the test of time, but emulators are so messy, right? DotEmu, a developer with plenty of experience porting classic games to mobile, has followed through on its promise to bring the Double Dragon Trilogy to Android as a single download.
For the low price of $2.99, you get Double Dragon, Double Dragon: The Revenge, and Double Dragon: The Rosetta Stone on your phone or tablet. The gameplay has been tweaked to be a little more forgiving for today's pampered mobile gamer. If you want a more authentic experience, the original and expert difficulties are still included. Like many other ports, the old arcade mode where you simply die when you run out of lives is also joined by a story mode so you can unlock stages as you go.
Controls come in the form of on-screen buttons, but there's also controller support baked in. If you need backup, there is a co-op mode, but it's local Bluetooth only. As for that iconic soundtrack, it's still there in both classic and remastered forms. Put the bucket of quarters away – all you need to take on the Black Shadow Gang this time is three bucks.
