With Hitman Go, Square Enix Plans To Cram Stealth, Assassinations, And Nice Suits Into A Turn-Based Strategy Game
Square Enix's Deus Ex: The Fall was a major entry in the Deus Ex franchise tailored for touchscreen devices. It may not have the complexity of its console brethren, but it made a very valiant effort. Now the company has announced Hitman Go, but this time, the mobile version of the game is going to be quite a bit different from the AAA one being developed for televisions. You see, Hitman Go is going to be a turn-based strategy game. No, I'm not judging. I'm just surprised.
Don't get me wrong, there's potential here. Stealth-based games have an inherent element of strategy in them. Square Enix Montreal says gamers will need to successfully navigate a grid, avoiding enemies as they eliminate targets and sneak into well-guarded locations (which, if we're honest, isn't all that different from most action-based stealth games). Strategy is compounded with the use of disguises, distractions, and various weapons. With the right amount of care, this could end up much better than a pared down action game would have been.
Look for Hitman Go to arrive in a matter of weeks, though whether it will launch on Android alongside iOS remains to be seen.
