If you live right on the bleeding edge of 
the Android modding world, but you just can't press the button on using 
beta software, you're in luck! <a class="external" href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47991707&postcount=6122" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Xposed 2.4 is now out of beta</a> just one week after KitKat support was first announced.
 As with the previous release, this one comes with the new log viewer 
and some pretty serious performance improvements. Now that it has lost 
the beta tag, it should also be fairly stable, or at least as stable as 
you can expect for a super-charged modding framework</div>

Xposed is still not equipped to support KitKat's new runtime-in-testing, ART. As developer <a class="external" href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=4419114" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">rovo89</a>
 explains, trying to run ART and Xposed together will result in a 
bootloop. To prevent users from accidentally sending their devices into a
 tailspin, Xposed will reset the runtime to Dalvik if the switch is 
made.</div>

Android 4.4 users should also remember that some modules may not work
 correctly if they modified anything that has since been changed with 
the upgrade to KitKat. This is one of the ways in which the new log 
viewer can be helpful for debugging, or at least determining if a module
 is incompatible.</div>

If you're already an Xposed user, simply hit the download screen for 
the latest installer, then update the framework from within the app. For
 new users, or those just getting set up on Android 4.4, simply follow 
the instructions on the developer's <a class="external" href="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47991707&postcount=6122" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">thread</a>.
 Remember, your device must be rooted and /system must be writeable. 
Don't forget, you will definitely want to make a nandroid backup before 
starting the install, and be prepared to either restore it or hop into <a class="external" href="https://plus.google.com/+PaulWilcox/posts/DZnje4XNPk2" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Safe Mode</a> in case anything goes wrong.</div>

review of the Nexus 5 on DP Review Connect, the mobile-centric arm of

in all scenarios. As with any DP Review piece, it's hard to overstress 
the fact that the review is in-depth, objective, and well worth looking 
at.</div>

The short version is that, as we'd expect, the camera does well in 
good conditions, and can even do alright in low light as long as nothing
 is moving too much. The downsides come primarily with the camera app 
and its controls which lack functionality, take time to start up, and 
have their own set of UX problems.</div>

continually scrolls, keeping fans of twitch games happy. Visuals are 
typically pixelated, but the production looks like it's as solid as

ready for some KitKat: HTC's US Twitter account just let slip the news 
that an Android 4.4 OTA update is headed your way starting today.</div>

While the rollout will probably be staggered in groups over the 
coming days, this is yet another incredibly quick OEM turnaround on 
Android 4.4. Though Motorola has achieved the arguably more impressive 
feat of getting KitKat on a Verizon device
 before even Google had managed to get it on its Google Play Experience 
handsets, we had generally assumed this was going to be an anomaly in 
the move to 4.4 while other handset makers lagged behind in the 
traditional fashion. Perhaps that won't be the case after all.</div>

The HTC One is available on all four major US carriers, though HTC 
has yet to comment on when owners of those phones will be getting their 
respective updates. No word at this point on just what the OTA brings in
 terms of changes to HTC's Sense UI layer, either, which is really the 
impressive part of this announcement. Typically, such a heavy skin 
requires more time before an OS update arrives, often months after 
Google has announced it. Perhaps, then, the changes to Sense are only 
those that were strictly necessary to ensure proper compatibility with 
Android 4.4.</div>

Today, at the <a class="external" href="http://defcamp.ro/speakers/#bogdan_alecu" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">DefCamp Security Conference</a>
 in Bucharest, Romania, details were revealed about a potentially 
serious SMS vulnerability found in all current Nexus phones. The person 
responsible for the discovery is <a class="external" href="https://twitter.com/msecnet" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Bogdan Alecu</a>,
 a system administrator at Levi9 and independent security researcher in 
Romania. When exploited, the attack can force the phone to reboot or 
destabilize certain services.</div>

The method of attack simply relies on sending a series of Class 0 "Flash" messages to the target phone. <a class="external" href="https://www.blogger.com/null" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Flash messages</a>
 are typically used for emergency or security purposes, appearing on the
 screen immediately instead of going to the default SMS application. 
When such a message arrives, no sounds are made but the background is 
dimmed and a single dialog box appears on top. Once 20-30 messages pile 
up, assuming the user isn't clearing them, it overloads the system and 
leads to a few potential side-effects. Most commonly, the result is an 
unresponsive device or an immediate reboot, but the Messages app or 
cellular radio may occasionally crash or freeze up in some instances.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In the event that the cellular radio crashes, it may have some more 
serious consequences. If a target has their SIM locked with a PIN code, 
the phone will not be able to reconnect until the code is entered. From 
time to time, it's also possible for the cellular radio to seize up, 
which can only be fixed by restarting the device. This is problematic 
because there are no audible prompts and the malfunction won't be seen 
until the owner unlocks their screen, leaving them without service for 
potentially several hours.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Alecu first notified The Android Security Team to the issue over a 
year ago, but initially received only automated responses. Continued 
efforts were mostly unsuccessful, leading to the decision to disclose 
the vulnerability publicly. To mitigate potential threats, he 
collaborated with <a class="external" href="https://www.blogger.com/null" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Michael Mueller</a>
 to develop Class0Firewall, an app designed to protect from Class 0 
messages if they reach the threshold of becoming a denial-of-service 
attack.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Bogdan notes that the current attack is only capable of destabilizing
 a phone, but theorizes that it might be possible to force remote code 
execution.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Based on limited testing with devices from various vendors, the 
vulnerability appears to only affect the Nexus line running on all 
versions of stock Android through to the current release of KitKat. None
 of the OEM variants checked were susceptible to the attack. Hopefully 
the publicity will prompt Google to release a patch to block the issue 
as quickly as possible. Even if a fix is rolled out, it's not entirely 
clear if the Galaxy Nexus will receive it now that it is no longer 
getting OS updates. Ideally, the patch will be ported back to Android 
4.3 and a security release will be made for the 2-year-old phone.</div>
