Action Launcher is one of the more distinct
 alternative home screens for Android. Instead of grafting new abilities
 on a standard launcher setup, the developer has created some innovative
 features that change how you use apps and widgets. Version 2.0 is just

Probably the biggest user-facing feature addition is Quickpage, 
which is a small home screen panel that is accessible at any time with 
an edge gesture on the right of the screen. The active area for this is 
toward the top, so it shouldn't interfere with using other apps. The 
Quickpage lets you place your favorite apps and widgets just a swipe 
away. The app Quickdrawer is also easier to get at with a similar 
gesture on the left. These "1-Swipe" features are accessible anywhere, 
even from other launchers, if you want to roll that way. </div>

<li>Use Android 4.4's new All Apps button and Settings theme. </li>
<li>Use Android 4.4 themed image highlights for the current Quickdrawer tab and Home screen page. </li>
<li>Add "Alternative wallpaper height" Labs setting for people running Android 4.3 or earlier. </li>
<li>If a shortcut for an app is not installed, flash an interactive 
toast message allowing the user to jump to the Play Store to install the
 app. Useful for people restoring an SD card backup on a device that 
does not have the app installed on it. </li>
<li>Layouts can be imported from Google Home. </li>
<li>Add FAQ to Help menu. </li>
<li>Add "Use full screen height" option to "Screen padding" setting. If 
enabled, do not adjust the usable screen size for the translucent 
navigation bar height (requires Android 4.4). </li>
<li>Beta release of a Holo Light background option for the Quickdrawer</li>
<li>PLUS: Lots of bug fixes</li>

According to the documentation, the developer tools will rely on 
Apache Cordova to assist in the creation of Chrome-packaged apps with 
HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (kind of like a webOS app). They will be 
launched more or less like a regular app with support for offline use, 
but they won't have access to all parts of the OS. Finished apps could 
be distributed through Google Play, or the App Store on Apple's 
platform.</div>

A Google Group post seems to confirm this is an official project, 
despite the company's refusal to comment. Google developer advocate Joe 
Marini posted there that the project could be ready for beta testing in 
January, but anyone is free to fiddle around with the GitHub code in the

When Android founder Andy Rubin announced that he was leaving the Android team
 back in May of this year, it was a shock to say the least. At the time 
Mr. Rubin confirmed that he was staying with Google itself, but declined
 to say what his new role would be. Six months later, <a class="external" href="http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/04/technology/google-puts-money-on-robots-using-the-man-behind-android.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" title="">a report from the New York Times</a> seems to have the first information on what he's been doing. I'll give you a hint: it's robots.

Yes, robots. That's not some kind of corporate codename for a new 
hardware platform running Android, we're talking about actual robots. 
Industrial robots, specifically: according to the NYT report, Google has
 quietly acquired no less than seven robotics companies, some which were
 barely in the startup phase, to bolster a new team of engineers and 
software developers headed by Rubin. The aim is to explore untapped 
markets in manufacturing and logistics, which Rubin says are not being 
served by conventional robotics technology. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
US and Japanese companies have been folded into the new team, 
including robot camera specialists Bot & Dolly and Industrial 
Perception, robot developers Schaft, Meka Robotics, and Redwood 
Robotics, and design firms Autofuss and Holomni. At least some of these 
companies are focused on humanoid robots, or at least they were before 
being acquired. Google's precise intention might not be clear, but their
 resolve certainly is. Two separate offices in Palo Alto and Japan will 
combine efforts with these newly-acquired companies and seasoned Google 
employees in either a new Google sub-group (like the secretive X-Labs 
behind Google Glass) or a subsidiary. </div>

Automation in general and robotics in particular are a booming speculative market - just ask Google's driverless car team, or <a class="external" href="http://www.amazon.com/?tag=androidpolice-20" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" title="Amazon">Amazon</a> CEO Jeff Bezos, who recently unveiled a plan to <a href="http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/12/02/amazon-is-preparing-flying-prime-air-drones-to-deliver-packages-in-30-minutes-or-less/">deliver packages via automated flying drones</a>.
 Google's effort would be less dramatic since it's aimed at industrial 
and business-to-business markets, and the New York Times reports that 
several specialists are guessing that it's related to automating 
portions of the supply chain. </div>

For his part, Rubin is no stranger to the robotics field. He worked 
as a robotics engineer for high-end optics manufacturer Carl Zeiss AG 
from 1986 to 1989, ten years before he co-founded Danger and started 
working in the mobile sector. Rubin told The Times that he has become 
frustrated with the complexities of the consumer electronics industry, 
and hopes that the new robotics venture will be different, focusing on 
pure hardware and software. </div>

keeping nearly all the details of Google's new robotics venture close to

The new app places more of a focus on outages and will 
send users straight to that screen after hitting them with a 
notification. It also provides root cause analysis to help you deal with
 issues while away from a computer. This all works alongside easier 
access to historical graphs for uptime, response time, and outages.</div>

Pingdom chose to release a new app due to technical 
reasons, primarily those related to the notification system. This app is
 version 3.0, whereas the previous was 1.1. A link to the Play Store is

4.4 update to hit US Cellular's Moto X, and in this case the speculation
 was right on the money. Motorola has updated the help page and release 
notes with OTA details, and Motorola's Punit Soni also confirmed the 
rollout on Google+.

Android 4.4 is going to reach users in stages, with the first 
phase starting today. There will be some improvements specific to the 
Moto X in this update, not just the usual KitKat stuff. Here are the 
details on what you'll be getting with Android 4.4 on the USC Moto X: </div>

<li>Android™ 4.4, KitKat: Android 4.4, KitKat, is the latest release
 of the Android platform. KitKat includes enhancements such as restyled 
status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, color emoji support,

use, and more tools and capabilities for better app development.</li>
<li>Phone dialer: Improved the phone app with the ability to look up 
contacts directly from the dial pad, see and tap frequent contacts, and 
search your corporate directory easily.</li>
<li>Camera - Focus and exposure: Enhanced the "touch to focus" option 
with a new circular, on screen control that can be dragged by your 
finger around the viewfinder to adjust a photo's focus and exposure.</li>
<li>Gallery - Photo editing: Added new photo editing options to the 
Gallery app including new filter effects, draw on your photos, advanced 
cropping, and adjustments to color, exposure, contrast and more.</li>
<li>Hangouts -SMS/MMS support: Incorporated a new version of Google 
Hangouts that supports integrated SMS/MMS messaging. Hangouts can be set
 as the default SMS app under Settings > Wireless > Default SMS 
app.</li>
<li>Touchless Control - "Find my phone": Added a new "Find my phone" 
command to Touchless Control. Just say "OK, Google Now-find my phone" 
and your Moto X will ring loudly to let you know where it's hiding when 
you've misplaced it nearby.</li>
<li>NFC - Host card emulation: Enhanced support for NFC Host Card 
Emulation (HCE), to improve experiences such as contactless payments, 
loyalty plans, transit passes, card access and more.</li>
<li>Accessory support: Added support for Square credit card reader</li>

but you'll have to wait for the update to be available first. It's 
probably best to wait for the update notification. And yes, this means 
the <a class="external" href="http://www.jdoqocy.com/bg81efolfn26C3849B243ABA6A6" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" title="Sprint">Sprint</a> Moto X is the only variant that lacks Android 4.4. Soni says they're working on it, though. </div>
