Google doesn't provide an obvious 
user-facing way to get locally saved media files from your phone to your
 TV using Chromecast. It's a bit annoying, but whatever, we have options
 now. There's AllCast
 for starters, but if you would prefer not to have to deal with yet 
another app, Solid Explorer has added the ability to stream files 
directly from the file browser. All you need is the latest version and a
 <a class="external" href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.solidexplorer.cast" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">separate plugin</a>.</div>

Searching for a restaurant that can satisfy
 everyone's culinary preferences isn't particularly easy on a 
smartphone's data connection. The process typically involves searching 
for a specific website, hoping there's a mobile version (nope), and 
searching around for a menu. Now Google's rolling out a feature in the 
US that should streamline things a bit. Just search Google for the menu 
and watch it appear as the top result.</div>

The menu comes complete with tabs for accessing 
different parts of menu, such as appetizers, entrees, and desserts. As

The feature appears to be active immediately, but it may
 take a while before it supports the majority of restaurants around you.
 I had success searching for the same "Fonda San Miguel" restaurant 
provided in the screenshot, Pizza Hut, and a local Chinese place, but I 
had no luck with searches for Burger King, Chipotle, or Olive Garden. 
Right now the feature is more cool than useful, but hopefully that 
changes soon enough.</div>

slicker, combining MicroUSB and standard USB 2.0 plugs into a tiny 
package. From the single press image, it looks like the entire device is
 barely bigger than the two plugs put together. </div>

Sony's new flash drives will be available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB 
capacities starting in January. They'll command a premium over standard 
flash drives, of course: the 8GB version will retail for twenty bucks, 
the 16GB will be $30, and the 32GB version will be a whopping $62.99. 
Your Android phone or tablet will need to run 4.0 or higher and have USB
 On-The-Go capability to use the drive. If you've got all that, you 
should be able to get your file sharing on with full-sized desktops and 
laptops, or anything else with USB functionality, in no time. </div>

For everyone else, this is a massive upheaval - the UI is completely 
different, there are major changes to the layout, and a lot of things 
have moved around. Predictably, this has angered quite a few people -

 from today. That new UI, if it's new to you, is still based on tabs, 
though those tabs are now swipeable, and there is a persistent compose 
area on the bottom of your three main columns (Home, Discover, 
Activity). This compose element does go away when you scroll down, but 
numerous users are already complaining about it taking up screen space.</div>

DMs are now accessed through a dedicated button in the navigation bar
 up top, and notifications no longer is its own column, but rather a

The update also promises quicker and smoother opening of books, which
 may or may not be a tangible improvement. One of my books opened pretty
 fast, but another I tried was taking a while, spinning and spinning 
just like it used to. Play Books now also shows you the relevant cover 
while you wait for the book to open, which may trick you into thinking 
it's actually loading faster. Placebo or not? You be the judge.<br />

The Notes UI has gotten some much-needed attention - you can now set note colors and delete them more conveniently.<br />
